This is a character design I created for one of my favourite villains, Lady Macbeth. Macbeth is by far my favourite Shakespeare play, and I’ve returned to its themes and characters in my artwork time and time again.

Lady Macbeth is a woman consumed by ambition, manipulating the men around her to seize power. She is calculating, belittling, manipulative, and ruthlessly confident.

 

In this illustration, I aimed to capture the duality of her character: the composed, persuasive woman she presents to the world versus the tormented, unravelling soul revealed only to Macbeth and the audience.
